Twenty-five miles to the north lies multi-cultural, metropolitan

cosmopolitan arts scene. Ten miles to the west of Homestead/Florida City lie the
endless wetlands and sawgrass prairies of Everglades National Park, the only ecosystem of
its kind in the world, deemed an International Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.
Florida's ubiquitous alligators roam these waters as does a small population of the
rare American crocodile, waterbirds and manatees.
To the east and south of Homestead/Florida City, the spectacular living coral reef awaits snorklers and divers in Biscayne National Park, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. More than 600 varieties of fish inhabit the waters of the coral reef, along with brightly-colored coral formations. This nature lover's paradise is also justifiably famous for world-class fishing.
Though natural beauty takes the lead in sightseeing activities in the area, family oriented attractions, hometown friendliness and historic sites also add charm to the mix. Restored buildings and an antique district on Krome and Washington Avenues in downtown Homestead appeal to both the history buff and the shopper. The Everglades Alligator Farm, located in Homestead, features thousands of gators and an incredible airboat ride through the Everglades. the new Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex, considered by many to be the finest racing facility of its kind in the country and perhaps the world, brings several major events to the area each year, featuring exhilarating NASCAR and Indycar racing.
